Information on Purchasing Biathlon Rifles
The CWSC owns several biathlon rifles which are used by members who take biathlon programs and enter into competitions. We are constantly looking to add more rifles to our inventory to allow more people to participate with a rifle that fits.
A proper fitted rifle is an important part for enjoyment and success in biathlon, and the best way to ensure that you are using a rifle that fits is to purchase your own. We have added to our inventory for the upcoming season, but if you do not have your own rifle it is likely that in our biathlon programs the rifles will be shared amongst the participants.
While the initial cost of purchasing a biathlon rifle is high, the good news is that a well-maintained rifle keeps its value over many years, and with a healthy biathlon program in the Sea to Sky Corridor you should be able to sell your rifle if you no longer require it.
New biathlon rifles can be difficult to source, and the CWSC uses KA Sports to help it purchase new rifles. If you are interested in purchasing a new rifle we suggest you contact Phil Douglas or Owen Allan of KA Sports, who will be able to answer your questions and help find a biathlon rifle for you.
Generally speaking, there are four types of biathlon rifle available. For serious biathletes, the best quality rifle is manufactured by Anschutz, and costs about $4,000. Another good option is an Izmash rifle with upgraded Larsen stock and accessories, which costs about $3,000. An Izmash rifle without upgrades is a good option for those who want a good, competition-level rifle, and costs about $2,200. Finally, recreational biathletes may be interested in purchasing a Savage target shooting rifle and having KA Sports provide a stock modified for biathlon, which costs around $750.
